Pair of Landscapes: Dijon France, Burgundy Canal A
Jean Boulay (French, 1937-1994)
Oil on canvas
Signed and dated
21 1/2 x 15 inches (each)

The pair landscape paintings were painted by the French artist Jean Boulay (1937-1994). Boulay paintings are Post-Impressionist in style; part Fauvist inspired and somewhat French Expressionist as well. The bright and cool colors are heavily applied to the raw canvas creating a thick impasto which heightens the boldness of the painting. They look great as a pair though singly, they're still quite compelling.

The imagery is that of the Burgundy Canal which is where Jean Boulay lived and painted. Though not widely known, Boulay was a master of color and applying contrasting pigments to create a sense of tension and tautness all being offset by the shimmering water.

Though a pair, considerations could be made for the sale of each picture being sold separately.
