Jean Boulay (1937-1994). Boulay paintings are Post-Impressionist in style; part Fauvist inspired and somewhat French Expressionist. The bright and cool colors are heavily applied to the painting surface which creates a thick impasto which heightens the boldness of the painting. They look great as a pair though singly, they're still quite compelling.
The imagery is that of the Burgundy Canal which is where Jean Boulay lived and painted. Though not widely known, Boulay was a master of color and applying contrasting pigments to create a sense of tension and tautness all being offset by the shimmering water.
Though a pair, considerations could be made for the sale of each picture being sold separately.
